Asset management companies (AMCs) in Ukraine had UAH 314.8 billion of AuM in total (including investment funds and private pension funds and insurance companies’ assets) at end 2018, or cca EUR 9.9 billion. This represents a 18.7% growth for the yearin UAH terms and a 25.4% growth in EUR terms as the national currency has appreciated over the year (and compared to the UAH 13.5% growth and the EUR 3.7% decline in 2017).

  • Insurance companies’ AuM contracted sharply in 2018 (-35,4%, after +127.5% in 2017) due to the declining number of such companies having respective arrangements with AMCs: by the end2018 theystood at UAH 80 M. One AMC was managing assets of 2 ICs as at end December 2018 (down from 2 and 6 in 2017 respectively).
  • Number of AMCs had fluctuated but eventually returned to 296 as at the beginning of the year, while the number of CIIunder management started growing again and reached 1237funds (+8.2% over the year).
  • The number of AMCs dealing with acting open-ended funds remained steady at 10 as well as did thenumber of such funds(17).
  • Open-ended funds had quite a good year in 2018: their total assets and NAV continued growing supported by both mostly upwards domestic stock market dynamics and positive net sales. The latter even grew to UAH 3 M in 2018 (from UAH 2.2M in 2017), despite the negative flows in the second half of the year. Meanwhile, the total NAV rose for the third consecutive year, to UAH 88 M, although at a slower pace of almost 18%(after +30% in 2017).
